My plan at the beginning of January was to run Thursday mornings with the Mission Bay Runner's bathroom running group. Since I have to drive my daughter to school in the mornings- due to the injury, I can't make the morning runs. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yesterday I decided to attend the 530 afternoon run. I started my run from home, close to Crown Point, at about 5:10. I thought I'd have enough time to make it to the runner's bathroom by 530. Well, I'm slow, I didn't make it there by 5:30. Paul and Tom, a couple of reeeeaaally fast guys, were at the bathroom when I got there at around 5:37. As soon as I got there paul says "German, I haven't seen you for quite a while" Yeay, I said, because I've been injured. so we start to run. As we started towards South Shores Paul and Tom mentioned that they were going to turn around at the bathroom. Great!! I thought. At least I'll try to keep up with them and then die when they turn around. When we get to South Shores' bathroom I'll have the excuse that I'm going all the way around since I'm going home and it's closer for me to go all the way around then to go back with them. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As we got to Fiesta Island I was sucking lots of air but was desperately trying not to show it. I figured that I could hang on for another 7 minutes or so. This pace was their warm up. On my best day, and the days get worse as I get older - three years ago I maintained a 7 minute pace for a 10K (I think), I can probably keep up with them at this pace. Tonight was tortorous. I kept on. They were talking about water and goo consumption during past 1/2 and marathon races and how it affected them. I was desperately just trying to hang with them as they held a comfortable conversation. Paul turns to me and asks me what I do during races. All I could think of was lots of water. I responded "I drink lots of water". Which is what I needed right there and then. The rest of the 7 or so minutes were a haze.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was finally relieved when we finally made it to the bathroom. (No, not that kind of relieved . It was a relief to free myself from them. I continued around the loop thinking how I had basically been mauled by these two fast dogs. I've seen both of them race before while I volunteer on a race or two of the Dirt Dog CC series. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yip! I got mauled, shaken and spit back out by these two tough dogs. I'm back on schedule.  I did my long run today.  8 miler.  I ran it with my wife, Alexia.  Great run.  the weather was nice and cool.  Clear blue skies day.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I didn't run on Wednesday - SAturday.  i did do spin on Wednesday though.  I took a CSET test on Saturday and that pretty much had me busy studying all week.  I'm going to study lots, starting now, so that this last minute rush that interferes with running doesn't happen again.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tomorrow I start 2 spin  classes a day.  The classes are Mon/Wed.  My plan, for now, is to not worry about running on those two days. Friday's are supposed to be for recovery.  I rode my bike to UCSD.  Classes start on the 14th and I have to get in shape for spinning by then. I ran with the run with Greg group yesterday.  It was supposed to be a recovery, short, run since I ran on New Years Eve.  Well, the run ended up being just short of 8 miles. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Since this is supposed to be a comeback from an injury that lasted 18 months I should watch out and take it easy coming back.  The reason for the injury in the first place was over doing the running.  I was just eager to get out and get a start on the new year.  Besides, my wife, Alexia, also ran and I can't pass up any chane to run with her.  The pace was supposed to be slow but somehow it was picked up.  Oh well! From the pace I've been able to hold I should be able to accomplish my goal.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;During the year and a half off of running I took up riding my bike and spinning.  Spinning is indoor cycling done in a group setting to music.  The instructor designs a profile, sort of the terrain that will be ridden during class.  The cadence, rate at which the pedals are turned, changes depending on the resistance added to the flywheel.   I really enjoyed doing the spinning thing.  An instructor training program was being offered for the first time at UCSD, through the recreation department, and I decided to enroll.  I became an instructor and that along with riding my bike helped me to stay in shape.  I've learned that a cadence of 90 revolutions per minute is ideal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;These posts, to me, seem like rambling.   I mentioned the spinning because I think that the 90 rpm cadence has helped my running.  I was not expecting to come back to running and be able to maintain a pace any faster than a 9-930/m pace.  At this point I feel that I am in a better position at the beginning of my marathon training cycle than I was 4 years ago. There is a Monday night running group that meets at Crown Point at 6 pm.  this group has been going strong for over 3 years now.  I love the out and back run that they do.  It starts at Crown Point Shores (about 1/4 mile before the mile marker on today's route) .  Over the past year and a half I haven't been able to meet and run with the group since I've been sort of injured.  My marathon training leading up to the 06 Rock-n-Roll Marathon left me injured after the last long run, a 22 miler.  I had been having plantar fascitis problems before that long run, blah blah blah.  I'll finish that story another day.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway, I haven't run more than 7 miles in over a year and a half.  i've run exactly 7 miles once in that year and a half period.  After deciding not to run the 06 RnR, I couldn't have done it anyway :-(, I started to ride my bike more than ever before.  I also started to take more spinning classes than usual.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Blah blah blah.....I've rambled on haven't I?!  today was a good 3.5 mile run.  My wife, Alexia, and daughter, Micaela, and myself went for a nice run.  I love running with my wife and daughter.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hopefully in future entries I'll be more organized on what I want to say and I'll keep the entry confined on just that day's run.  I'm just excited to get back into a training schedule.  I want to remind myself of all of the wrong things done in the past.
